Month 1 and 2
Wow, my sweet baby boy sure is a blessing...........but why didn't anyone tell me it was going to be this hard?!?!?!
The first 2 months with a newborn have been interesting to say the least! I knew there were going to be nights with little to no sleep, crying, and lots of diaper changes.....but I was not prepared (nor do I think anyone could have prepared me) for the chaotic, stressful, emotional day to day situations that a newborn creates.
Bless his little heart, Griffin has a very sensitive tummy. He is very gassy and has stomach issues. On May 20, I called the pediatrician and told her of his symptoms (screaming bloody murder, spitting up very frequently...with force, arching his back, etc.) and she sent us to the Cook's ER. After being tested for Pyloric Stenosis...and the test coming out negative....Griffin was diagnosed with acid reflux. He is on Zantac meds twice daily. Since being on the medicine, he seems to be much better. He is still not 100% "fixed" but...much better. :-)
He doesn't really believe in taking naps during the day. Cat naps at best....20 minutes here....15 minutes there....but he is definitely on a better nightly schedule. He sleeps anywhere from 3-7 hours in his first "chunk" then we feed him....and he sleeps 2-4 hours in his second "chunk". One night, (June 22 to be exact) he slept for 9 straight hours!!
Right now he sleeps in the pack-n-play beside me in our room, but our goal is to move him into his crib in the nursery the week that Cam and Lyd are out of town with Courtney. This will be something that David is in charge of, because it breaks my heart to let him cry (scream bloody murder) for longer than about 20 seconds. We figure that the best time to let this happen is when the kiddos are out of town so that they don't have to be here and be a part of the painful process. :-(
One thing that NOONE told me was how painful it was to quit nursing. I unfortunately got mastitis and had to be on antibiotics for 10 days straight. The antibiotics affected my milk and therefore affected my baby. So, I was having to pump and dump... long story short... I am not nursing any longer. I did for one whole month to the exact day, and now he is on Enfamil Gentlease formula. So far so good with the formula...so hopefully there won't be any issues with it and we will be able to continue using it.
Something else that noone told me about was that he was going to lose his hair!!! It truly seems like it happened over night. One day he had a head full of hair...and the next he was left with one patch on top and some around the back of his head. He looks like a little old man. I have been assured that it will come back...but it definitely would have been nice to be warned about it before hand!! :-)
This past 2 weeks (week 6 and 7) he has had a lot of new "quirks/accomplishments." He is getting a little personality of his own now. He now has warranted smiles directed at the person holding him. He doesn't smile just when he is passing gas or in his sleep any longer :-). I tell you what, it was the most amazing feeling to get a smile from him (on purpose...directed at ME) for the first time. It was so sweet.
He also "coos" now and talks to himself frequently. It happens the most when he is laying on his back or tummy playing on his floor gym. He sits and makes the sweetest sounds. I could sit and listen to him all day. :-)
He has officially grown out of all of the NB clothes...and is on his way of being too big for the 3 month clothing. It is crazy how fast he is growing! At his last Dr. appointment to get the second round of his Hep. shot...he weighed a whopping 10.11 ounces!! Considering he was born weighing 8.7 and left the hospital at 7.14...he has grown a lot! I definitely have a little chunky monkey on my hands!
He will swing in his swing for 10 minutes (at best) at a time....like I said he loves to lay and play on his floor gym. He loves the sound of water, taking baths, and being outside!
Lydia and Camden have been great with him. Now, Cam shows him the attention that any 11 year old boy would show his baby brother, but Lydia is like a little mommy! She wants to do everything she can to help take care of her little "Cutie Pie" all by herself! She begs us to change his diaper and burp him by herself (even though that hasn't happened yet...she just "helps" us do it :-) ) She does however feed him and play with him during "tummy time."
I think that I have caught up on everything thus far. :-) I will now include some pictures of the past 2 months ( I have taken over 500 pictures...so this is a very select FEW) ... Enjoy! :-)
I am definitely in love!,

It's been quite awhile.... much needed UPDATE!
Well, our sweet bundle of joy....Griffin Christopher Johnson was born on May 3, 2012 at 3:08 am. Dad, Deb, Kev, Aunt Debbie, Chris, and Glenn were all there for the special event! I am obviously a little behind on my posts....but being the mother of a newborn...I now know first hand how LITTLE time you have to sit down and complete something like this. However, I do want to get some of the details down so that I can come back and look at them if I ever want to :-).
To make a very long story short...I was admitted into the hospital on May 2 around 5:00 pm and I was dialated to a 4 and 90% effaced. I got to a 5-6 on my own that night and then was given Pitocin. Dr. Walker broke my water when I was at a 6 and I went from a 6 to a 9 in 30 minutes. The nurse told me that if I was a 10 by 1:45 then we would start pushing.....well, I was....BUT the lady next door had to have an emergency C-section so I had to wait an HOUR AND A HALF to start pushing! I pushed for 30 minutes and at 3:08 am, Griffin was born! :-)
I summarized the whole night in a quick nutshell, but I just wanted to get to the point that I can post pictures and funny things that are happening NOW and not have to "catch up" first. :-)
Here are some pics from the most special night of my life:
